Year 3 Students Lead the Way in Sustainability

An exciting new sustainability initiative is underway at our Howard Springs junior campus, led by Mr Arnold and his enthusiastic Year 3 class. The students have embarked on a hands-on plastics recycling project that turns everyday waste into useful new products, all while raising funds to support Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS).

The project focuses on collecting plastic milk bottles and bottle caps from our school community. Using a specialised machine, the plastic is melted down and poured into moulds to create carabiners. Additional moulds for pegs and rulers are also being created, to produce a larger range of items.

The Year 3 students shared their project at their Junior School Assembly. They explained how the collection system for plastic bottles and caps will work and outline their plan to transform this plastic waste into new products. Once made, these items will be sold, with all proceeds donated to ALWS to support their important humanitarian work. As part of their presentation, students created an animated story titled 'The journey of the plastic bag' - view it !

This initiative not only helps reduce plastic waste but also empowers students to become active global citizens, combining sustainability with social impact.

We鈥檙e incredibly proud of Mr. Arnold and the Year 3 students for their leadership and creativity. Stay tuned for updates on their progress!
